As I have said before, I don't always agree with articles I post. I do think it's important to know what others around the US and globe are saying. I believe the people who come here are smart enough to use discernment when reading news articles.
I search the news wires from all over, in hopes to find news that gives us a better understanding of the world we live in. Our MSM just spoon feeds us what they want us to know/think.
Thanks so much for taking time out of your day to come here and catch up.
If you find news stories that we have missed, feel free to add them to the current daily thread with links.
@edkrassen - Ed Krassenstein & @krassenstein - Brian Krassenstein were permanently suspended from Twitter [ ! ] T sites "operating multiple fake accounts & purchasing account interactions," as the reason. If U've been watching T events, U know that their, then Blue Checkmarks, were stripped a few months back. This should bring a marked downturn in Twitter Bot activities. We'll see…?
Krassenstein bros respond hillreporter.com/op-ed-krassensteins-respond-to-twitter-suspension-by-the-krassenstein-brothers-37041 OP-ED: Krassensteins Respond to Twitter Suspension – by the Krassenstein Brothers BY ED KRASSENSTEIN & BRIAN KRASSENSTEIN May 24, 2019 The first thing that went through our heads was that ‘this is some sort of mistake,’ so we contacted our main press contact at Twitter to inquire. All that the friendly woman was able to provide us with was their official press statement that had already been sent to other press outlets such as The Daily Beast and Fox News. It read as follows: “The Twitter Rules to apply to everyone. Operating multiple fake accounts and purchasing account interactions are strictly prohibited. Engaging in these behaviors will result in permanent suspension from the service.” The problem with these statements is that we never did any of this. We never “purchased account interactions,” nor did we ever “sell usernames” or buy usernames. We did operate multiple accounts, but there were only a few of them and they were not used to “mislead” or “manipulate Twitter.” If Twitter investigated this thoroughly they would clearly see this. This is what we DID do: 1. We, or immediate family members and/or business partners operated multiple Twitter accounts in a 100% non-manipulative or misleading way. These, however, ONLY included @edkrassen, which is Ed Krassenstein’s personal account; @krassenstein, which is Brian Krassenstein’s personal account; @krassencast, which is the official KrassenCasts podcast account; and two additional accounts: @kstein2020 & @frankkern20, both of which were used specifically to track threatening tweets by others, targeted at us and/or our families (more on this below). 2. In addition to this, we have run other Twitter accounts in the past for various businesses and projects, which we have not logged into for years. None of them were misleading or manipulative in any way. There was one Twitter account used named “Impeach Donald Trump” but we had deactivated it well prior to the suspension, and it was never used to deceive, mislead, or manipulate. 3. We NEVER, and we want to make this as clear as day, ever bought or sold ANY Twitter accounts or interactions. We swear on our graves that this is 100% true. The two Twitter accounts mentioned above (@kstein2020 @frankkern20) were old accounts. One was 12 years old and was an account we had used to tweet about an old Android video game system called the OUYA when we ran a news site about the system. The other account was 2 years old and one of us used it on our phones to track threats that people who had blocked our personal and business accounts were making toward us and our families. The FBI is aware of these threats. (Great. They suspend them for a bogus reason and open up the gag inducing victim whine act. Why couldn't they have been suspended for the real reason, which was hate speech against President Trump?)
Chaiman Nadler says Mueller is reluctant to testify because “he doesn't want to participate in anything that he might regard as a political spectacle.” Why would the special counsel think the House Judiciary Committee has devolved into a stage for political spectacle?

DoJ Launches Anti-Trust Probe Into Real Estate Brokerage Industry As homes in the US become increasingly unaffordable, those who can afford to buy probably chafe at the insanely high commissions paid to agents and brokers, which can amount to 6% of the sales price. And as more buyers balk at these fees, turning instead to 'iBuyers' like Open Door and Zillow (which will buy a home with the intention of flipping it), it appears the DoJ has finally taken an interest in the phenomenon. According to Bloomberg, anti-trust authorities are looking into allegations that members of the Realtors Association conspired with brokerage companies like Realogy Holdings Corp and Re/Max Holdings to stop home sellers from negotiating their commissions. Bloomberg learned about the investigation from sources at CoreLogic, a data provider that offers real-estate data to government agencies, lenders and brokers. CoreLogic spokeswoman Alyson Austin confirmed the company received a civil investigative demand "relating to an investigation of practices of residential real estate brokerages." CoreLogic is not the focus of the investigation, she said. If anything, the investigation is long overdue. The DoJ has been trying to lower real-estate commissions for the past 10 years. The U.S. residential real estate industry has long faced criticism that it stifles competition among brokerages, protecting agent commissions that are higher than those paid by sellers in many other countries. In 2008, the Justice Department reached a settlement with the National Association of Realtors, a trade group, that was designed to lower commissions paid by consumers by opening the industry to internet-based brokers. While CoreLogic couldn't provide any specifics beyond disclosing that the investigative demand sought information about the ability to search real estate listings on multiple platforms, the DoJ declined to comment, and BBG noted that a lawsuit filed against real-estate broker franchisors and the Realtors association might hold a few more clues. The investigative demand to CoreLogic, dated last month, follows a lawsuit filed against the Realtors association and real estate broker franchisors, including Realogy Holdings Corp., claiming they conspired to prevent home sellers from negotiating commissions they pay to buyers’ agents. The Realtors association filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit, arguing that it misunderstands the role of brokers. The trade group didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment on the lawsuit or the Department of Justice investigation. "We believe this case has no merit and have moved jointly with the other corporate defendants to dismiss the case," Realogy spokesman Trey Sarten said in an email. "Additionally, we have joined in NAR’s motion to dismiss." The Internet has made it easy for anybody to look up listings, so why have commissions for real-estate agents remained so high? Though, while lower commissions could lead to lower prices, for most millennials, a mere 6% differential likely won't be enough to revive the lost dream of homeownership. www.zerohedge.com/news/2019-05-23/doj-launches-anti-trust-probe-real-estate-brokerage-industry
China's Largest Chipmaker De-Lists From NYSE
Friday's session has already featured a frantic flurry of trade-war-related headlines that have - at least in the market's view - overshadowed Theresa May's tearful announcement that she will be stepping down as PM. Beijing repudiated President Trump's Thursday claim about a 'speedy' trade deal, saying there were no plans for a Trump-Xi meeting. US stock futures pared gains on that headline. Also, US firms ratcheted up the pressure on Huawei, with Microsoft joining the contingent of chip and tech companies that is planning to cut ties with Huawei over Washington's blacklisting. And now, the South China Morning Post is reporting that China's largest chipmaker is withdrawing its ADRs from the New York Stock Exchange, and will subsequently trade only in Hong Kong. The company said 'low trading volumes' and the 'cost of maintaining the listing' motivated its decision. China’s biggest maker of semiconductors is to withdraw from the New York Stock Exchange as the increasingly ferocious trade war with the US spills over into the technology sector. Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp (SMIC) said on Friday evening it has notified NYSE of its intention to apply on June 3 to delist its so-called American depositary receipts from the bourse. In a filing to the Hong Kong stock exchange, where its shares are listed, SMIC cited low trading volumes of its ADRs and the costs of maintaining the listing and complying with reporting requirements and related laws. The delisting is expected to happen after June 13, and trading of the chip maker’s US securities will shift to the over-the-counter market, the statement said. Bwahahahahaha-joining the ranks of ktwats OTC POS narrative-can't make this shit up. The sudden move comes as Washington steps up efforts to cut off its technology from China, with trade negotiations between the world’s two largest economies still deadlocked. Just a few days ago, Steve Bannon told the SCMP that he would like to see Chinese companies shut out from American capital markets. It appears Beijing is doing him one better. Meanwhile, a growing number of sell-side strategists now see a protracted trade war as the 'base-case' scenario. The latest assessment from Rabobank concluded that it's extremely unlikely that either side will offer an olive branch in the near future: "That ship has sailed." China is battening down the hatches for a "Long March" and doesn’t even want to talk to the US. In fact, Xi and Trump might not even meet at the end of June in Osaka, in which case there is no obvious off-ramp. Hovering in the background is Steve Bannon's 'superhawkishness'. President Trump has already accomplished something incredible: He's united a disparate group of business leaders and politicians from both parties behind his hard-line approach. This might give him the cover he needs to ignore the market, at least until things start getting really bad. In the mean time, expect more Chinese companies will demonstrate their 'independence' from American markets. go right ahead-kiss of death listing on that exchange. www.zerohedge.com/news/2019-05-24/chinas-largest-chipmaker-de-lists-nyse

Amazon Japan halts direct sales of Huawei products TOKYO (Kyodo) – Amazon Japan has suspended direct online sales of Huawei Technologies Co. products after Washington last week blacklisted the Chinese communications giant, sources close to the matter said Friday. The e-commerce titan's move came as major Japanese mobile phone service operators such as KDDI Corp. and SoftBank Corp. on Wednesday postponed their plan to launch Huawei's new smartphones two days before the scheduled date. Amazon Japan stopped selling Huawei products it had procured on its own, including the latest smartphone models, personal computers and tablets, citing "concerns over the operating system." Customers are still able to buy Huawei products sold by other venders on Amazon Japan's e-commerce site. "We are considering a solution for our customers to safely use" Huawei products, said an Amazon Japan official in Japan. But the e-commerce giant did not disclose when it would resume selling them. NTT Docomo Inc., the largest wireless carrier by users in Japan, also said Wednesday it stopped taking orders for Huawei's high-end model handsets previously scheduled to hit the market in the summer. Many low-cost brand mobile phone service operators followed the major wireless carriers' moves, but electric appliance retailers Bic Camera Inc. and Yodobashi Camera Co. said they plan to sell Huawei's new smartphones as scheduled. mainichi.jp/english/articles/20190524/p2g/00m/0bu/067000c
Shanahan to meet Chinese counterpart in Singapore: U.S. official WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Acting U.S. Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan will meet China's defense minister on the sidelines of an Asia defense forum in Singapore, a senior U.S. defense official said on Friday, at a time of strained tensions between Beijing and Washington over trade and security. "We're doing a pull aside with the Chinese counterpart at Shangri-La," said the official, speaking on the condition of anonymity. Chinese Defense Minister Wei Fenghe will deliver a speech on June 2 at the Shangri-La Dialogue, the first time since 2011 that a Chinese defense minister will be at the forum, having in recent years sent lower level officials. www.foreigndesknews.com/world/us/shanahan-to-meet-chinese/

NASA executive quits weeks after appointment to lead 2024 moon landing plan CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (Reuters) - A top NASA executive hired in April to guide strategy for returning astronauts to the moon by 2024 has resigned, the space agency said on Thursday, the culmination of internal strife and dwindling congressional support for the lunar initiative. Mark Sirangelo, named six weeks ago as special assistant to NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine, left the agency as NASA abandoned a reorganization plan due to a chilly reception on Capitol Hill, Bridenstine said in a statement. Two individuals close to the space program and familiar with the situation said Sirangelo was escorted out of NASA’s headquarters in Washington on Wednesday after his resignation. His departure came after lawmakers rejected NASA’s proposal to create a separate directorate within the space agency to oversee future lunar missions and ultimately develop human exploration of Mars. “The proposal was not accepted at this time, so we will move forward under our current organizational structure,” Bridenstine said. “Given NASA is no longer pursuing the new mission directorate, Mark has opted to pursue other opportunities.” Last week, the Trump administration asked Congress to increase NASA’s spending next year by $1.6 billion as a “down payment” on the accelerated goal of landing Americans back on the moon by 2024, more than half a century after the end of the U.S. Apollo lunar program. The latest initiative was dubbed Artemis, after the goddess of the hunt and the moon in Greek mythology and the twin sister of Apollo. NASA had aimed to return crewed spacecraft to the lunar surface by 2028, after putting a “Gateway” station into lunar orbit by 2024. However, the prospect of additional funding drew little enthusiasm from congressional appropriators. The two people with knowledge of the matter said Sirangelo’s ouster was sealed by increasing skepticism that 2024 was a realistic deadline for moon landings. In his statement, Bridenstine said the agency was still exploring what organizational changes were “necessary to maximize efficiencies and achieve the end state of landing the first woman and the next man on the moon by 2024.” “If the $1.6 billion does not materialize, we will fall back on the previous plan, which was to land in 2028,” the NASA chief told reporters at a news conference earlier in the day. NASA announced earlier on Thursday it had selected the space technology company Maxar Technologies Inc as the first contractor to help build the “Gateway” outpost. www.reuters.com/article/us-space-exploration-nasa/nasa-executive-quits-weeks-after-being-named-to-lead-moon-initiative-idUSKCN1SU0A5
Harvey Weinstein Accusers Reach $44 Million Settlement In Sexual Misconduct Case Disgraced Hollywood filmmaker Harvey Weinstein’s accusers have reached a tentative $44 million settlement over sexual misconduct allegations, according to multiple reports. Roughly $30 million will be allocated for plaintiffs, which includes former Weinstein Co. employees. The other $14 million will go toward legal fees for Weinstein’s associates, as first reported by The Wall Street Journal. Weinstein Company filed for bankruptcy last year Weinstein attorney Adam Harris told a federal bankruptcy court in Delaware Thursday that Weinstein and his former studio had reached an agreement “in principle,” although the deal has yet to be finalized. dailycaller.com/2019/05/24/harvey-weinstein-44-million-sexual-misconduct/

Wikipedia case against NSA internet snooping returns to court Attorneys for Wikipedia are scheduled to return to federal court next week in a long-running fight to limit government surveillance of internet messages. The case has seen some successes, including an appeals court win on standing in 2017, and civil libertarians see the case as a way to stop the National Security Agency from siphoning data from the internet’s backbone to store for warrantless searches. The Trump administration argues the case cannot be decided without harming government secrets, however. A similar case, filed in 2008 by the Electronic Frontier Foundation, was dismissed last month by a judge in California who found a “fair and full adjudication” would require “potentially harmful disclosures of national security information.” Filed in 2015, the Wikimedia Foundation case predates the term “FISA abuse” as applied to a warrant against Trump campaign associate Carter Page and instead focuses on a program operated under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act that could impact anyone. The Wikimedia Foundation, represented by the American Civil Liberties Union, relies on math to argue the NSA is intercepting its messages as part of Upstream collection, a program that takes records from major internet cables and switches. Although set up to target terrorists and spies, records "incidentally" collected on U.S. citizens can be searched without a warrant. “Wikimedia, with trillions of communications, is a different kind of plaintiff,” a filing this month argued. “The immense volume and global distribution of Wikimedia’s communications ensures that its communications travel on every possible Internet path into and out of the country.” The most recent filing urges U.S. District Judge T.S. Ellis to privately review classified evidence after May 30 oral arguments, before ruling on a Trump administration motion to dismiss. The online giant said additional secrets don't need to be disclosed for it to prevail in the case. Ellis, who works from a courtroom in Alexandria, Va., became nationally known this year presiding over former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort’s trial. He questioned the rationale for prosecuting Manafort and demanded to see a secret document setting the scope of special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation. Ultimately, Ellis sharply deviated from sentencing guidelines, giving Manafort fewer than 4 years in prison, rather than 19-24 years. ACLU attorney Patrick Toomey, who is representing Wikimedia, gave an upbeat assessment, saying he believes the law requires Ellis to review evidence before ruling. “Congress has authorized courts to use special safeguards in surveillance cases like this one, rather than dismissing those cases outright. A ruling for Wikimedia would allow this challenge to move forward based on the extensive public record, and it would ensure that our courts have the chance to determine whether the NSA’s spying is lawful,” Toomey said. Attorney Kurt Opsahl of the Electronic Frontier Foundation said in a recent interview that the stakes are high. "Millions of ordinary Americans are being swept up in this dragnet. The notion is we sweep up everything, and then, we look for what we need. It’s turning the Fourth Amendment on its head," Opsahl said. The section of law that the NSA says allows for the internet collection, Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, was renewed last year by President Trump without significant changes, following failed attempts in Congress to prevent alleged “backdoor searches” of records on U.S. citizens. The Wikimedia case is one of the final legal challenges filed specifically in response to former NSA contractor Edward Snowden’s 2013 disclosures. Most other cases have been ruled moot after Congress ended a dragnet phone-record program. Ellis initially ruled against Wikimedia before being reversed on standing, or the legal right to sue, by a panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit. The judge is likely to turn heads during oral arguments, as he did in the Manafort case. During a 2015 hearing, he questioned the adequacy of the secret court handling FISA warrants and gave colorful commands to attorneys on both sides. “When I start [talking] you need to stop,” Ellis told a prominent Justice Department attorney in 2015, adding to Toomey: “This isn’t politics, you’re not on the stump!” www.washingtonexaminer.com/policy/courts/wikipedia-case-against-nsa-internet-snooping-returns-to-court
More interesting connections – the NXIVM web is huge
The NXIVM/JZ KNIGHT Connection Earlier Thursday, former NXIVM senior member Mark Vicente completed his five days of testimony by reluctantly admitting he once belonged to another spiritual organization — and believed its leader had been channeling the spirit of an ancient warrior. Vicente admitted under cross-examination he had belonged to the Ramtha School of Enlightenment between 1994 and 2004. "It was a body of knowledge," Vicente said. When Raniere's attorney, Marc Agnifilo, began to probe the subject of Ramtha, Vicente said he was not sure how much he could say — an apparent reference to litigation between himself and the group, which is based in the state of Washington. "Did you believe that (Ramtha founder) J.Z. Knight was channeling a 35,000-year-old warrior?" Agnifilo asked Vicente. "For a few years," Vicente responded. Asked if there was any evidence to back that theory up, Vicente replied that "there was evidence" in the form of scientific testing. He said Ramtha's leader turned on him when he made a documentary, "What the Bleep Do We Know!?," that dealt with group. www.timesunion.com/news/article/NXIVM-13851004.php
Ramtha's School of Enlightenment is an American spiritual sect near the rural town of Yelm, Washington, U.S. The school was established in 1988 by J. Z. Knight, who claims to channel a 35,000-year-old being called Ramtha the Enlightened One. The school's teachings are based on these channeling sessions. www.ramtha.com/
But when Vicente, who has been dishing dirt about NXIVM leader Keith Raniere, was asked about Ramtha, the “enlightenment school” that held Vicente’s allegiance before jumping ship, he was hardly as eager to spill any secrets “I don’t know how much I can say,” an uneasy Vicente told jurors hearing evidence at Raniere’s conspiracy and sex trafficking trial Thursday in Brooklyn Federal Court. ”There may be legal issues for me.” Judge Nicholas Garaufis reminded Vicente that he swore to tell the truth when he took the witness stand. “You’re under oath,” Garaufis said. “This is a court proceeding.” [More New York] Ex-Queens prosecutor turned defense lawyer found guilty in witness bribery scheme » Vicente went on to describe Ramtha founder J. Z. Knight’s leadership, which drew in such celebrities as Linda Evans and Shirley MacLaine. Knight, who claims to channel a 35,000-year-old warrior, says she blends ancient wisdom, the power of consciousness and science in her teachings. Critics, including the Southern Poverty Law Center, say she’s a hate teacher who disparages Catholics, gays, Mexicans and Jews. Vicente, under cross examination, claimed Knight put him in danger when she said in front of 1,000 “zealous” followers that “I would die a horrible death.” Raniere “teased” Vicente about his Ramtha ties when he first joined NXIVM, saying he needed to be “deprogrammed,” Vicente said. Raniere’s lawyers appeared to be using Vicente’s past “cult” membership to discredit his testimony about Raniere’s group. The next witness Thursday, businessman Stephen Herbits, said Raniere lieutenant Clare Bronfman, a Seagram’s liquor heiress, asked him to use his political ties to get NXIVM’s enemies indicted. When Herbits refused, he said he ended up on the list, which was unearthed during a police search in the home of NXIVM co-founder and president, Nancy Salzman, who has already pleaded guilty to a racketeering conspiracy charge. The list included cult investigator Rick Ross, Albany DA David Soares, ex-New York Governor Eliot Spitzer and U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer. Raniere, 58, has pleaded not guilty to sex trafficking and exploiting victims including a 15-year-old Mexican girl he allegedly had sex with and photographed nude. He claims his encounters with the alleged victims were consensual. Five of Raniere’s followers, including actress Allison Mack and Seagram’s liquor heiress Clare Bronfman, have pleaded guilty to racketeering and other charges. Lauren Salzman, a “first-line master” under Raniere and the daughter of Nancy Salzman, will take the stand Friday as a cooperating witness. www.nydailynews.com/new-york/ny-nxivm-cult-vicente-testimony-20190516-v5n5tksanndgljpwyaioebaopu-story.html
LA Mayor Eric Garcetti Launches Green New Deal Los Angeles is aspiring to become a City-State unto itself as it honors the Paris Climate Agreement and creates its own Green New Deal, delivering “environmental justice and equity through an inclusive green economy.” ⁃ TN Editor Mayor Eric Garcetti today released Los Angeles’ Green New Deal, which sets aggressive goals for the city’s sustainable future, tackles the climate emergency with accelerated targets, strengthens our economy and our middle class, and sets L.A. on course to be carbon neutral by 2050. “Politicians in Washington don’t have to look across the aisle in Congress to know what a Green New Deal is — they can look across the country, to Los Angeles,” said Mayor Eric Garcetti. “With flames on our hillsides and floods in our streets, cities cannot wait another moment to confront the climate crisis with everything we’ve got. L.A. is leading the charge, with a clear vision for protecting the environment and making our economy work for everyone.” L.A.’s Green New Deal is guided by four key principles: a commitment to uphold the Paris Climate Agreement; a promise to deliver environmental justice and equity through an inclusive green economy; a plan to ensure every Angeleno has the ability to join the green economy by creating pipelines to good paying, green jobs; and a determination to lead by example within City government, showing the world what an urban Green New Deal looks like in practice. www.technocracy.news/la-mayor-eric-garcetti-launches-green-new-deal/ (wtf is this blather about ENVIRONMENTAL justice? Trump Seeks to Hand Border Wall Construction to North Dakota Firm Under normal circumstances, the construction project should be awarded through a contest to the company with the best offer, but Trump appears eager to cut through bureaucracy to get the job done. US President Trump wants to build that wall — and it should be cheap and fast. And it appears like he already found the perfect men for the job: a North Dakota construction company called Fisher Industries. Normally, the process should go through a tender with several bidders. However, Trump seems to be willing to change the rules and offer the contract to Fisher directly, believing the company can do the job faster and cheaper than competitors, according to a Washington Post report. "The President is one of the country's most successful builders and knows better than anyone how to negotiate the best deals," White House Press secretary Sarah Sanders said. "He wants to make sure we get the job done under budget and ahead of schedule." The company claims it has a patent-pending construction method that would make wall construction much faster and cheaper than its competitor, Washington Post report says. The mysterious method has been tested by Senator Kevin Cramer, who visited the company's HQ in North Dakota during his 2018 Senate campaign. Back at the time, Cramer posted a photo of himself driving an excavator. "Here at Fisher Industries in Dickinson ND, I tested just how easy it is to install a panel of wall myself," Cramer wrote on Twitter. Speaking about Trump's involvement in the Border Wall construction project, Cramer praised the president for his organizational skills. "Good for him. It's why he is the president of the United States. He knows a thing or two about building big projects," Cramer said. "This is why he's president." According to Cramer, Trump was elected to "cut through Washington's entrenched bureaucracy." Fisher is also being promoted by Jared Kushner, Trump's son-in-law and a senior advisor to the President. Being deeply involved in the wall construction project, Kushner personally investigated why the US Army Corps of Engineers sought to favour other companies over Fisher. According to the Washington Post, initially, Fisher was rejected because its proposed wall project was of inferior quality. After some pressure from the White House, then-DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen demanded the company make changes in their project proposal so that they could bid for the contract. sputniknews.com/us/201905241075288216-trump-border-wall-firm/
SEAL admiral who commanded bin Laden raid says no one should be pardoned for war crimes Retired Adm. William McRaven said Thursday that anyone convicted of a war crime should not receive a pardon from President Trump. “We are a nation of laws. And one of the laws that the military always follows is the law of armed conflict. So if someone has been found guilty of violating the law of armed conflict and committing a war crime, I think it is a very, very slippery slope if we start pardoning individuals like that,” McRaven said in an appearance on CNN. The former SEAL commander's comments follow reports that Trump plans to pardon multiple military members charged or convicted of war crimes. McRaven, who oversaw the raid that killed al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden in 2011, has not ruled out a potential run for president. "Yeah, there was. I guess you never say never. But the fact of the matter is, I absolutely have no plans to run for president," he said. McRaven added that if “somebody is interested in my support in a policy world” he might reconsider his plans. Trump attacked the admiral in November for being a Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton "backer." He also said McRaven was slow in getting bin Laden. “Wouldn’t it have been nice if we got Osama bin Laden a lot sooner than that, wouldn’t it have been nice?” Trump said. Retired Gen. Martin Dempsey also attacked Trump’s plans to pardon war criminals. “Absent evidence of innocence or injustice the wholesale pardon of US servicemembers accused of war crimes signals our troops and allies that we don’t take the Law of Armed Conflict seriously. Bad message. Bad precedent. Abdication of moral responsibility. Risk to us,” Dempsey said Tuesday. www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/seal-admiral-who-commanded-bin-laden-raid-says-no-one-should-be-pardoned-for-war-crimes

Vicious Cycle: The Pentagon Creates Tech Giants and Then Buys their Services The US Department of Defense’s bloated budget, along with CIA venture capital, helped to create tech giants, including Amazon, Apple, Facebook, Google and PayPal. The government then contracts those companies to help its military and intelligence operations. In doing so, it makes the tech giants even bigger. In recent years, the traditional banking, energy and industrial Fortune 500 companies have been losing ground to tech giants like Apple and Facebook. But the technology on which they rely emerged from the taxpayer-funded research and development of bygone decades. The internet started as ARPANET, an invention of Honeywell-Raytheon working under a Department of Defense (DoD) contract. The same satellites that enable modern internet communications also enable US jets to bomb their enemies, as does the GPS that enables online retailers to deliver products with pinpoint accuracy. Apple’s touchscreen technology originated as a US Air Force tool. The same drones that record breath-taking video are modified versions of Reapers and Predators. Tax-funded DoD research is the backbone of the modern, hi-tech economy. But these technologies are dual-use. The companies that many of us take for granted–including Amazon, Apple, Facebook, Google, Microsoft and PayPal–are connected indirectly and sometimes very directly to the US military-intelligence complex. A recent report by Open the Government, a bipartisan advocate of transparency, reveals the extent of Amazon’s contracts with the Pentagon. Founded in 1994 by Jeff Bezos, the company is now valued at $1 trillion, giving Bezos a personal fortune of $131 billion. Open the Government’s report notes that much of the US government “now runs on Amazon,” so much so that the tech giant is opening a branch near Washington, DC. Services provided by Amazon include cloud contracts, machine learning and biometric data systems. But more than this, Amazon is set to enjoy a lucrative Pentagon IT contract under the $10bn, Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure program, or JEDI. The Pentagon says that it hopes Amazon technology will “support lethality and enhanced operational efficiency.” The report reveals what it can, but much is protected from public scrutiny under the twin veils of national security and corporate secrecy. For instance, all prospective host cities for Amazon’s second headquarters were asked to sign non-disclosure agreements. www.counterpunch.org/2019/05/22/vicious-cycle-the-pentagon-creates-tech-giants-and-then-buys-their-services/

PROPAGANDA ALERT!!! Former FEC Chair: First Amendment Responsible For More ‘Violent Hate Crimes’ Than Terrorism A “libertarian interpretation” of the First Amendment is responsible for more “violent hate crime” in the United States than terrorism, a former Federal Election Commission chair claimed Thursday. “The libertarian interpretation of the 1st Amendment has permitted a huge spike in violent hate crimes in the US – many more than foreign attacks,” former FEC Chair Ann Ravel wrote on Twitter. Ravel linked to a story noting a statistic from the left-leaning Anti-Defamation League, which found that 78% of the 50 U.S. murders related to extremism in 2018 were carried out by white supremacists. The story also noted the FBI has approximately 5,000 open terrorism investigations around the world, of which 850 are in the U.S. Ravel, who is running as a Democrat for a seat in the California Senate, did not say how she would modify free-speech rights to address the issue, though her record provides some indication. During her 2013-17 tenure as a commissioner on the FEC, Ravel sought to limit the kind of political content users could place on websites such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. Critics said the efforts were aimed at stifling conservative websites, especially the Drudge Report, which Ravel faulted for death threats she received online. Before joining the FEC, Ravel chaired the California Fair Political Practices Commission, where she led an effort to crack down on bloggers who advocated for or against political candidates. More recently, Democrats have railed against online speech for allegedly encouraging the perpetrators of mass shootings, though Ravel made no mention of a March mosque attack that killed 49 in Christchurch, New Zealand. The perpetrator in that case streamed the first 17 minutes of his attack on Facebook Live; it was subsequently posted to several other sites. Telecom companies in New Zealand blocked customers from accessing many of those smaller websites after the attack, but never extended the ban to Facebook. www.dailycaller.com/2019/05/23/takala-first-amendment-terrorism/
Japan remains world's biggest creditor at end of 2018 TOKYO (Kyodo) – The net balance of external assets held by the Japanese government, companies and individual investors stood at 341.56 trillion yen ($3.11 trillion) at the end of 2018, remaining the world's largest for the 28th consecutive year, the Finance Ministry said Friday. The figure, up 3.7 percent from a year earlier and the second-largest amount on record, reflected increased overseas investment by Japanese companies, according to the ministry. In the reporting year, Germany was second with 260.28 trillion yen, followed by China's 236.08 trillion yen. Among components, direct investment in the United States stood at a record-high 55.63 trillion yen and that in China was also the largest on record at 13.66 trillion yen. Japan's overseas assets edged up 0.5 percent to 1,018.38 trillion yen, up for the 10th straight year, supported by mergers and acquisitions by Japanese firms and investment by institutional investors in foreign stocks and bonds. Overseas liabilities fell 1.1 percent to 676.48 trillion yen, down for the first time in nine years, in line with a drop in prices of Japanese stocks held by foreign investors. mainichi.jp/english/articles/20190524/p2g/00m/0bu/041000c

In addition to clarifying the nature of the original UKUSA Agreement and how the NSA and the GCHQ have adapted it over time, this document confirms our understanding of the broad scope of the UKUSA Agreement. In the “Background” section, it observes that “the basic agreement … for the exchange of all COMINT results including end product and pertinent collateral data … for targets worldwide, unless specifically excluded from the agreement at the request of either party” has “[o]ver the years … been the case.” In its high-level “Findings/Conclusions,” it also documents that “[t]here is a heavy flow of raw intercept, technical analytic results, and SIGINT product between NSA and GCHQ.” Additional language contained in the “Findings/Conclusions” section has been redacted. And in its concluding “Areas of Cooperation/Exchange” section, it indicates that “GCHQ-NSA SIGINT exchange involves a sharing of a wide variety of targets worldwide, ranging from military activities to [REDACTED] terrorist activities, and [REDACTED]” and “includes the exchange of material (raw intercept, analytic, product) on [REDACTED].” The document hints at how the two agencies facilitate such sharing in practice, including by ensuring that the “GCHQ has direct access to NSA computer systems.”
theconservativetreehouse.com/2019/05/23/president-trumps-declassification-directive-outlines-specific-process-and-direction/ Now that President Trump has officially designated the Declassification Memorandum we can review the specifics for process, content and timing. Our previous research led to a set of expectations for the directive. Now, that we have the directive in hand, we gain increased clarity of purpose. ♦ First, President Trump has assigned ownership of the Directive to U.S. Attorney General William Barr. This part was predictable because the purpose of declassification would be to facilitate a DOJ review of how the intelligence apparatus was used in the 2016 election. Additionally, because the DOJ review encompasses intelligence systems potentially weaponized in 2016 for political purposes and intents, President Trump carries: (a) declassification authority; but also: (b) an inherent conflict. In this DOJ endeavor candidate Trump would have been the target of corrupt agency activity; and therefore would be considered the target/victim if weaponization were affirmed by evidence. To avoid the conflict President Trump designates the U.S. Attorney General as arbiter and decision-maker for the purposes of declassifying evidence within the investigation: …”The Attorney General has also been delegated full and complete authority to declassify information pertaining to this investigation, in accordance with the long-established standards for handling classified information.” (link) Additionally, AG Bill Barr does not need to assemble the intelligence product for approval by the executive (Trump). Instead the office of the president is granting the AG full unilateral decision-making as to each product being considered for declassification. This is a huge amount of trust from the President to the Attorney General, and a big responsibility for William Barr: good read

Facebook Is Trying To Reduce Political Advertising Sales Ahead Of 2020 Elections As the 2020 election approaches, Facebook says that it has stopped paying employees commissions for the sale of political ads on the social media platform. Facebook now considers political advertisements on its platform a substantial liability in the context of the 2016 presidential election, according to former Facebook employees and digital campaign strategists, the Wall Street Journal reports. The alleged Russian meddling in the U.S’s 2016 election has raised concerns about the role of political ads on the platform, leading to discussion among Facebook senior staff as to whether to nix political advertisements altogether, according to more former employees. A March 2018 Facebook Newsroom release acknowledges that an all-inclusive ban on political Facebook advertisements may be the only way to ensure that there is no foreign interference in elections. Mark Zuckerberg decided that the company will continue selling political ads on Facebook, but incentives for selling them will no longer continue, a former employee source told the WSJ. Employees who previously earned commissions through the selling of political ad space will now have their base salaries raised instead, Katie Harbath, Facebook’s global elections public policy director, said. Harbath explains that the company now views political campaign ads as a civic responsibility rather than a profit-driving opportunity. Political advertisements make up a relatively small proportion of Facebook’s total revenue, constituting $55 billion of Facebook’s revenue in 2018, according to the WSJ. All users will have the same level of access and support concerning political ads, and the new compensation policy will affect ads from national to local campaign levels, attempting to avoid the accusation that Facebook is favoring particular political factions and not others, Harbath explains. “It doesn’t matter if you’re running for president or running for city council. You have access to the same tools and level of support,” Harbath said. Some presidential campaigns have noticed a difference in services rendered by Facebook staffers amid the implementation of the new policy, while others still work with Facebook employees beyond the scope of what is available to normal customers, digital campaign staffers allege according to the WSJ. In 2016, both Facebook and Google offered substantial advertising services to the Trump and Clinton campaigns that surpassed what was available to smaller campaigns. The Trump campaign especially capitalized on these services given its smaller and less experienced digital campaigning staff. Facebook’s shift in compensation policy has had noticeable benefits for smaller campaigns, making help more available than it has been recently for these small, low spending customers, according to Patrick O’Keefe, executive director of the Maryland Republican Party. www.dailycaller.com/2019/05/23/facebook-political-advertising-2020-election/
Ted Cruz issues the ultimate challenge to 'young socialists' (VIDEO) Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), during an exclusive interview with Campus Reform, issued quite the challenge to young socialists while addressing the topic of free speech and intellectual diversity on college campuses. Campus Reform Editor-in-Chief Lawrence Jones sat down with the Texas Republican on Tuesday in Cruz's Washington, D.C. office to ask him, among other things, about a recent report that found that 41 percent of college students do not think hate speech should be protected under the First Amendment, a poll on which Campus Reform previously reported. Cruz responded to the report, saying that he's not surprised by its findings. "Unfortunately, students…they're not being taught to think," Cruz said. "What's defined as hate speech, by the way, is anything the Left disagrees with. The First Amendment wasn't designed for popular speech. You actually don't need the First Amendment if what you're saying is popular. The First Amendment was designed to protect unpopular speech, to protect minority views, to protect views that are not in common agreement. And particularly the whole point about a college experience is learning to confront views you've never seen before." The Texas senator continued by recalling how, in his own college experience, he took classes with "Marxist" professors because he said he wanted to know how they thought. Cruz contrasted that experience with the approach taken by today's young socialists. "How about you actually engage with the fact that socialism has produced poverty and misery and suffering for billions across the globe…" www.campusreform.org/?ID=12258

European elections polls: Brexit Party forecast to win the most votes With the public having voted in the European Parliament elections on Thursday, the last polls (taken before voting day) show that Nigel Farage's Brexit Party was likely to gain the most votes in the UK. Although the vote took place in the UK on Thursday, the results are not expected until Sunday evening due to most other EU member states casting their votes that day. The Conservatives are on course for their lowest ever share of the vote in a nationwide ballot and could even slip into fifth place behind the Greens. Establishment parties are expected to suffer across the EU, both at the hands of the populist-Right as well as resurgent liberal parties. www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2019/05/24/european-elections-polls-uk-eu/

How the hell do you weaponize classified information, Schiff? All it is, is the truth. You only consider information concerning the Russian investigation a weapon because the truth would damage you.
This word ‘loyal’ it does not mean what you think it means…
Anon comment: To Schiff, justice is the People's complacency with evil. Trump is certainly obstructing that.
Schiff Calls Barr Investigation Into Origins Of Russia Probe ‘Un-American’ California Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff called Attorney General William Barr’s investigation into the origins of the Russia probe “un-American” in a Thursday night tweet. “While Trump stonewalls the public from learning the truth about his obstruction of justice, Trump and Barr conspire to weaponize law enforcement and classified information against their political enemies,” Schiff wrote. “The coverup has entered a new and dangerous phase. This is un-American.” President Donald Trump on Thursday directed the heads of the CIA, FBI, State Department and other agencies to cooperate with Barr as he investigates the origins of former special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation. The president also released a memo authorizing the attorney general to “declassify, downgrade, or direct the declassification or downgrading of information or intelligence” regarding the investigation into whether or not the Trump campaign was surveilled unlawfully. A Hill/Harris-X survey conducted last week showed 62% of registered voters agreed with Barr’s decision to investigate the probe’s origins. Meanwhile, several were quick to criticize Schiff out on Twitter. www.dailycaller.com/2019/05/23/schiff-barr-investigation-russia-probe-un-american/

Sen. Lindsey Graham said “not one Democrat will give a damn” about the documents that could be declassified in relation to the surveillance of the Trump campaign in 2016. “You're gonna find out the mentality of the people investigating the president. Anon analysis: Is this right so far? -McCabe, Comey, Strzok and Preistep - the top-level FBI admins - planned to take Trump out. -They devised a plan to spy on his campaign, illegally, but made it look "legal" by producing "the dossier" -Mike Rogers told the Trump administration there were spies after him. -Strzok and Page destroyed the plan by exposing their private text messages. -The text messages were sent to the OIG and that started the massive secret investigatory campaign into the Democrats. -John Huber was then appointed to investigate all things 2016 election while Mike Horowitz - the OIG - continued with his investigations into the FBI's role in the 2016 election. -John Huber's power allowed him to appoint grand juries in all 50 states. -Enter Mueller…. -Two years of hell endured as Democrats attempted to change the minds of American citizens - doing everything they can to persuade them that Trump was a Russian spy. -Trump vehemently defends himself. Publically announces that the Obama admin officials committed treason throughout the Mueller investigation. -Enter William Barr…. -Barr is briefed on all that's been done by the OIG and John Huber. -Barr assesses that Trump was spied on and appoints John Durham - a nasty federal prosecutor who is a career expert in prosecuting mob bosses and corrupt politicians. -Exit Mueller…the plan failed. Somewhere along the line Mueller flipped and produced an exonerating report clearing Trump of all Russian conspiracies. -Democrats double-down and claim William Barr is a traitor working with the president to undermine the country. -Democrats attempt to subpoena the world in order to keep the investigations ongoing to give their agenda more velocity into 2020. -Trump announces that William Barr as the authority to declassify any data and orders ALL intelligence agencies (not just the FBI) to comply. -The declassified data will not only help the public understand how treason occurred at the highest levels of Hussein's administration, but it also gives the grand juries appointed by Huber the evidence they need to indict those in the administration. -Once the grand juries indict, John Durham and his team will prosecute all those involved with crimes against the country using the declassified data. -It's possible a military court will enter into the story at some point. Remember when Trump announced a military parade way back, then cancelled it? This is when something went wrong and they had to re-plan the timeline. Now the celebration is on July 4th 2019 - we are back on track and those who committed crimes against the country will go to prison.
Joe Biden Reportedly Involved in Controversial Early Stages of 2016 Russia Probe
NEW YORK — Former Vice President Joe Biden was reportedly one of the few Obama administration officials who participated in secretive meetings during the early stages of the Obama-era intelligence community’s initial operations regarding suspected Russian interference in the 2016 presidential campaign. That tidbit was contained deep inside a 7,700-plus word Washington Post article published June 23, 2017 in which the newspaper also detailed the highly compartmentalized nature of the original Russia interference investigation and the manner in which other U.S. intelligence agencies were deliberately kept in the dark. Part of the efforts eventually involved unsubstantiated and ultimately discredited charges made by the Christopher Steele dossier that Trump campaign officials were colluding with Russia. Biden’s largely unreported role in the initial Obama administration meetings on the matter of Russian interference could spark further questions now that Attorney General William Barr has appointed a U.S. attorney to investigate the origins of the Russia collusion claims. Only last week, Barr commented that the intelligence community’s early handling of the Russia investigation may itself raise questions. He noted that it was first handled at a “very senior level” and then by a “small group.” www.breitbart.com/politics/2019/05/24/joe-biden-reportedly-involved-in-controversial-early-stages-of-2016-russia-probe/

Sumo update – it’s a fascinating sport POTUS in Nippon….still unsure whether he will present the Emperor's Cup to the basho winner on Sunday. In any event, here is an update on the basho. After 13 fights (2 remaining), the leader board shows Asanoyama in the lead at 11-2. He is fighting from the M8 position, and should not win the basho. Pertinent digression–the M stands for Makuuchi, which is the top sumo division. In descending order, the divisions are: Makuuchi Juryo Makushita Sandanme Jonidan Jonokuchi Usually the banzuke (rankings ladder) will show 32 sumo in Makuuchi, spread in 16 ranking spots, with and East and West for each spot. Ergo, 32 rikishi. Above Makuuchi are the very top, named ranks. In ascending order, these ranks are Komusubi (2), Sekiwake (2), Ozeki (currently 3 but sometimes 2 or 4), Yokozuna (rope belt, grand champion). Currently 2 (both Mongols), but no set number. The Sumo Association sets the banzuke based on the results from last basho, up to and including Sekiwake rank. For Ozeki, the fighter must win 8 of 15 bouts to keep his rank unblemished. If he fails due to losses or injury withdrawal, he keeps his Ozeki rank for the next basho, but is also "kadoban." This means if he fails for a 2nd consecutive basho to win 8, he loses his rank and drops to Sekiwake. An Ozeki who loses rank can continue his career as a sumo if he wishes, though most don't. Kotoshogiku is a former Ozeki, now fighting at M1. The 3 Ozeki are all Japanese. Goeido, Takayasu & Takakeisho. Takakeisho is one of the Japanese hopes, rocketing up to Ozeki at age 22. He is a bulldozer, very impressive, with great de ashi, or leg drive. Only he injured his knee (minor) and had to withdraw for a couple of matches. His oyakata (trainer, head of the stable) brought him back to face Aoiyama (Bulgarian, real name Daniel Ivanov)……continued below. Sumo is war by another name. These guys live it day by day, a way of life—a difficult life. When they step into the ring (dohyo) in front of a serious crowd and television cameras, they mean it (unless told to tank it). The way to win is to cause your opponent to touch down inside the dohyo with any body part but the foot, or to touch any body part including the foot down outside the dohyo. Or you get the rare DQ for something like grabbing the top knot. This is a call by the gyoji (referee) or the ringside judges after replay. Each match begins with the fighters squatting behind the 2 tape lines, facing each other. They go when each has both hands touching the ground. You often see false starts with a guy trying to get the jump, called back by the gyoji, amid apologetic head bows. But then they go at it with a rush called the tachiai. This could be translated as "big energy" or "big hit." You had better bring it at the tachiai or you will get blasted back, giving your opponent a space & momentum advantage.
But sometimes a guy pulls a henka, which is sidestepping the onrushing opponent and watching him fall flat on his face. They still allow it, though fans dislike it–after all they paid to see a fight. Or a half henka, which allows a grip and move advantage. Well, to my amazement, Aoiyama pulled a flat out henka on the Japanese fair haired boy, Takakeisho, when he tried a comeback from the hurt knee. For a gaijin to pull that on the Japanese favorite, and in a totally chickenshit manner, is stunning. But Aoiyama is going for it at Komusubi, and doesn't want to go down. Fighting hard, needs to win both his last 2 to hold rank. Takakeisho then withdrew and will be kadoban in July. Each rikishi fights under a shikona, or fighting name. Some Japanese use their own name, but all rikishi fight under a Japanese name. Yokozuna Hakuho withdrew before the tourney, so the only Yokozuna fighting is Kakuryu. If a Yokozuna fades in prowess, he is forced into retirement by the Sumo Association after a couple of warnings. Or if he does "anything" to sully the Yokozuna rank. Like Mongol Asashoryu, who pimp slapped a guy in a car down at the red light district about 3:00 AM, heh. Kakuryu has been slipping lately IMO. Still very strong through the first 9 or 10 bouts, but fades in the last 5 after being weakened in the daily grind. Kakuryu is 10-3 and still very much in it, but looks very human. Takayasu and Goeido have won their 8 and so are under no rank pressure. But you have Sekiwake Tochinoshin (Georgian) at 9-4, who is an enigma. He was Ozeki and lost it last basho. But he gets a chance to regain rank if he wins 10 this basho. He was 9-1 and looked like a lock, but has been whooped 3 days running. Now faces Kakuryu tonight (US time) with both guys needing it. Should be a vicious fight. Tochinoshin is very popular for a gaijin. If he wins, expect to see a rain of cushions into the ring, thrown by the crowd. Once in awhile you see a guy from the lower ranks steal a basho, which is what Asanoyama is trying to pull. Yeah, he is fighting very well (out of his mind actually) but has had a much easier schedule than Kakuryu or Tochinoshin. He could win, but I personally would rather see Tochinoshin win out 2 fights, with Asanoyama losing tonight to Goeido (9-4 and fighting well)and then being forced into a playoff fight on final day after the 15th fight for everyone. Likelier though is Kakuryu wins tonight and wins over Asanoyama if there is a playoff. Anyhow, the cup will go to Kakuryu, Asanoyama, Tochinoshin, or Asanoyama. Couple of end notes: Tochinoshin is as strong as anyone, a freaking animal. Not big on technique, but if he gets the inside belt grip with both hands, it's over. He will carry/push anyone out of the ring. Endo is the Japanese favorite, another young rikishi. Fighting at M2. He is the heartthrob for the Japanese ladies. Have watched him get stronger and stronger, better and better. Lost his 8 this basho so might be at M4 in May. Still, he is an up and comer. You see some smaller guys fighting very, very well now. By "small" I mean 225-250. Do not underestimate their speed & skill. No fat on the smaller ones, just raw muscle. As opposed to say Aoiyama at 425 or Ichinojo at 500, with an Ozeki like Takayasu fightin at 392 this basho.
Fmr. Navy SEAL and Gov. Eric Greitens to reactivate and deploy to Middle East Former Navy SEAL and Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens will be deploying with the U.S. Navy this fall, according to a new report on Wednesday. Sources told The Kansas City Star that Greitens has revealed to friends and supporters that he will deploy to the Middle East later this year, resuming his active duty Navy status, though not as a SEAL. He has been on inactive status with the Navy’s Standby Reserve since 2017 when he was elected as governor. The status enabled him to keep his commission, but paused his pay, promotion eligibility and time served accruement toward retirement. Greitens, 45, resigned as governor last year amid a scandal and charges stemming from an affair. In April 2019, he applied to move to Selected Reserves, and that application was approved. americanmilitarynews.com/2019/05/fmr-navy-seal-and-gov-eric-greitens-to-reactivate-and-deploy-to-middle-east/

Judge Raises Serious Questions About Democrats’ Border Wall Lawsuit A federal judge expressed deep skepticism over a lawsuit by House Democrats that seeks to cut funding for President Donald Trump’s border wall. U.S. District Judge Trevor McFadden questioned, during a three-hour court hearing Thursday, the legitimacy of a lawsuit that challenges the White House’s funding of border wall construction without explicit permission from Congress, The Wall Street Journal reported. McFadden said the question of whether the House has legal standing in this case “is a significant issue.” Has the House “used all the tools at its disposal before rushing to court?” he said. “There are other tools in your arsenal here, right?” McFadden asked. The federal judge, a Trump appointee of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, said the judiciary should exercise prudence about wading into a fight between the two other branches of government. McFadden’s comments are the latest developments in a court case that began in April when the Democratic-controlled House of Representatives voted to sue over Trump’s emergency declaration. That declaration, made in February, allowed him to tap billions more in border wall funding after Congress gave him far less money than he wanted. Democrats have fiercely opposed funding for a border wall. The impasse even led to the longest government shutdown in U.S. history. Both the House and Senate passed a resolution condemning Trump’s emergency declaration, but it failed after he vetoed it — the first veto of his presidency. “The president’s sham emergency declaration and unlawful transfers of funds have undermined our democracy, contravening the vote of the bipartisan Congress, the will of the American people and the letter of the Constitution,” Speaker Nancy Pelosi said in April when the House voted in favor of the lawsuit. dailycaller.com/2019/05/24/judge-skeptical-border-wall-lawsuit/
Science deals a setback to Obamacare's transgender rule As hard as the social justice movement tries to erase the meaning of words as we all know them, we're not quite there yet and the Trump administration's reversal of an Obama-era rule on healthcare demonstrated that on Friday. A new rule proposed by the Department of Health and Human Services undoes a previous one by the Obama administration, which essentially said that the terms "sex" and "gender" are interchangeable, even as liberals have pressed to make a distinction between the two for years. When Obamacare was passed, it prohibited the discrimination of medical care "on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability." The Obama administration then said that discrimination on "sex" included "gender," and therefore any man or woman claiming to identify as the opposite gender was entitled to the same protection. Facilities that performed sex-based procedures, then, could not deny those same services to a transgender person, who, for example, might elect to have her uterus removed as part of transitioning to "male." Now the Department of Health and Human Services has decided that, no, anti-discrimination law does not require this. There will, of course, be legal action to stop the Trump administration's reversal, but science is not on the social justice crowd's side and medicine is a science-based field. Sex is by every measure determined by a person's biological physical makeup. Reproductive organs determine an individual's sex, not his or her beliefs, feelings, or dysphoria. In an ideal, free country, anyone can determine how they want to live, how they want to dress, and what gender pronouns they prefer for themselves. What do you know? We already live in that country! But it's entirely something else to demand that science-based professions disregard the exact meaning of words (like "male" and "female") in order to conduct human experiments deemed unnecessary, perhaps unsafe, and nonetheless, a little shudder-inducing. That's what the new rule reversal aims to prevent. When the legal system kicks in, we'll find out if words still have meaning. www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/science-deals-a-setback-to-obamacares-transgender-rule
Migrant welcome centres blast Salvini for cutting off money – complain that kennels for dogs receive more money than they do Italian pro-migrant associations which operate asylum reception centres have blasted populist Italian Interior Minister Matteo Salvini for cutting funding. The associations complain that kennels for dogs are currently receiving more money than the migrant reception centres, Italian newspaper Il Giornale reports. Fabio Scaltritti of the Community San Benedetto al Porto in Alessandria commented on the cuts saying: “In Italy a place in an animal shelter costs on average 20 euros with the addition of the cost of cans and biscuits.” “The new rules imposed by the Salvini decree reduce the cost of receiving a human being to less than 20 euros a day: it means that we are equated with the keepers of a kennel and we do not want to be”, he added. “It is not an economic question, but an ethical one”, Scaltritti said and noted: “Even if the figure had remained at 35 euros a day we would not have enough.” Scaltritti claimed that the amounts per migrant per day they charge for drug addicts was 75 euros a day, 130 euros a day for minor migrants, and up to 250 euros for migrants with mental health issues. Since coming to power as Interior Minister in 2018, Salvini has managed to reduce new illegal migrant arrivals by over 90 percent, which has also seen drownings in the Mediterranean decrease as well. Not all of those running migrant reception centres have come out against Salvini. Earlier this year, the head of the largest migrant reception facility in Italy Francesco Magnano slammed open borders advocates saying an open border policy had “created slums scattered throughout the country“. “In our country, there are 600,000 denials. People who have lost not only the right to reception, but have lost their status, they are zombies who live in our country”, he added. voiceofeurope.com/2019/05/migrant-welcome-centres-blast-salvini-for-cutting-off-money-complain-that-kennels-for-dogs-receive-more-money-than-they-do/
Pakistan offers to be mediator between US and Iran as threat of large-scale conflict flares up Pakistan has said it is ready to mediate between Washington and Tehran as Iran’s foreign minister arrived for talks in Islamabad amid growing tensions in the Middle East. Islamabad is worried about the situation in the region as the US builds up its military presence in the Persian Gulf, but has indicated it’s not going to take sides in the intensifying conflict between Washington and Tehran. “If required, Pakistan is ready to play a constructive and positive role in this regard,” Pakistan’s Foreign Office spokesperson Mohammad Faisal said in a Thursday press briefing. Earlier that day, the Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif arrived in Islamabad for talks with his Pakistani counterpart scheduled for Friday. Faisal said that Pakistan stands against violent escalations and would like to avoid a large-scale conflict in the region: “Pakistan supports dialogue in all situations. If there is any problem, it should be resolved through peaceful dialogue and negotiations.” www.rt.com/news/460144-pakistan-mediate-iran-us/

Trump Calls on 4 Witnesses Who Dispute Pelosi’s Account of White House Meeting President Donald Trump called on four witnesses from his administration, who all disputed an account by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) about a White House meeting. Trump and Democratic leaders were slated to meet on May 22 and try to reach a deal on infrastructure but Trump walked into the meeting and cut it short, telling Pelosi that he won’t work with the opposition party until they stop the investigations into him and his past. “I walked into the room and I told Leader Schumer and Speaker Pelosi I want to do infrastructure,” Trump said at a press conference later that day. “But you know what we can’t do it under these circumstances. So get these phony investigations over.” Pelosi then claimed that the president was enraged when he spoke to her and her colleagues. www.theepochtimes.com/trump-calls-on-4-witnesses-who-dispute-pelosis-account-of-white-house-meeting_2935583.html
Pregnant Middle Eastern Women Delivering ‘Anchor Babies’ in Chicago Pregnant Middle Eastern women are taking advantage of the United States’ policy that gives foreign nationals the ability to secure American citizenship for their children so long as they are born within the parameters of the country. A local report by ABC 7 Chicago detailed how pregnant foreign nationals are traveling to the U.S. to deliver their children to ensure that they are given American citizenship. One doctor who spoke with ABC 7 Chicago, Dr. Mia Norlin, said most of the women she sees in Chicago hospitals taking advantage of the country’s birthright citizenship policy are from the Middle East. “Most of the patients I’ve taken care of are from Middle Eastern countries,” Dr. Norlin said. “We looked into it to make sure that it was legal … it’s different than most of our patients.” The report noted that websites advertising to help foreign pregnant women come to the U.S. to deliver their children often offer six-figure packages. As Breitbart News has chronicled, in Florida, pregnant Russian women have fueled a baby boom in regions of the state as they arrive in the country to make sure their children get U.S. citizenship. The U.S.-born children of foreign nationals, specifically those visiting the U.S. and illegal aliens, are commonly known as “anchor babies.” There are at least 4.5 million anchor babies in the country, a population that exceeds the total number of annual American births in 48 states, as about 300,000 anchor babies are born every year. Currently, the U.S. and Canada are the only developed nations in the world that offer unrestricted birthright citizenship. About one-in-five U.S. births — or 791,000 — are to legal and illegal immigrant mothers, with legal immigrant mothers accounting for about 12.4 percent of those births and illegal alien mothers accounting for 7.5 percent. The U.S. Supreme Court has never explicitly ruled that the children of illegal aliens must be granted automatic American citizenship, and many legal scholars dispute the idea. Trump promised last year to end birthright citizenship through executive action, but the order has yet to be revealed or signed. In a recent birth tourism crackdown, federal immigration officials revealed that three birth tourism companies allegedly helped more than 8,500 anchor babies secure American citizenship. In the process, the three companies profited at least $7 million. www.breitbart.com/politics/2019/05/24/pregnant-middle-eastern-women-delivering-anchor-babies-in-chicago/
French Ex-Head Hollande May Have Been Targeted in Assassination Attempt –Reports 20:15 24.05.2019 Late last month, French law enforcement took four suspects into custody over preparing an assault on police officers, with another being detained several weeks later in Strasbourg. A member of the group detained in early May in France on suspicion of plotting a terrorist act appeared to have possibly been planning an assassination attempt against former French President Francois Hollande, television channel BFMTV reported. “Was Francois Hollande targeted by terrorists? Some evidence underpinning the assumption has been found in the mobile phone of one of the five men detained in the beginning of May over the preparation for a terrorist act against police and the Elysee Palace”, the media outlet pointed out, adding that the person in question is an underage man from Chechnya, referred to as Khamid S. sputniknews.com/europe/201905241075313516-french-ex-president-hollande-assassination-attempt/

At the same time, Reuters reported, citing police sources, that the number of injured stands at 13, including one child. Bombshell Report Reveals British Govt Stages 'Muslim' Responses to Terrorist Attacks The British government staged the "Muslim" response to the 2017 Islamic London Bridge terrorist attack all the way down to the hashtags pushed on social media so that the public would focus on a "sense of unity with strangers" rather than "reacting with violence or anger," according to a bombshell new report from the London-based Middle East Eye. After the 2017 attack at the London Bridge, video went viral showing police guiding a group of Muslims before the media's TV cameras as they presented slick signs saying "#TurnToLove," "#LoveWillWin," "#ISISWillLose," and so on. Most people thought it was evidence CNN staged the incident. In fact, it turns out it was staged by the UK government itself – and it wasn't the first time. Cummings and Wife Deny Personal Benefit From Committee Position ― Still Won’t Turn Over Public Records Congressman Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) and his wife Maya Rockeymoore are denying that the couple benefitted from his position on the House Oversight Committee. As IJR previously reported, Cummings and Rockeymoore faced ethical questions after a conservative watchdog group, the National Legal and Policy Center, dug through the paper trail of Rockeymoore’s businesses and found potentially illegal arrangments. The National Legal and Policy Center filed an IRS complaint against Rockeymoore alleging that there is an illegal overlap between her non-profit charity and for-profit consulting firm. Rockeymoore’s consulting firm was given a million dollar federal contract, of which, her non-profit “served as the national program office.” This could qualify as “self-dealing,” which is illegal. The National Legal and Policy Center also outlined how businesses that had relationships with Cummings’ committee cut checks to Rockeymoore’s businesses — potentially creating a conflict of interest. When the center requested the financial documents of Rockeymoore’s non-profit, she refused. Because non-profits receive special tax benefits, they are required by law to provide their finances to the public. When the Washington Examiner — who first reported the IRS complaint against Rockeymoore — followed up with Rockeymoore to request the financial documents, they were also denied. Instead of providing the public with transparency into the non-profit, Rockeymoore called the Examiner’s report a “hit piece” in an interview with Maryland Matters. Cummings told the Washington Post the report was “a fabricated distraction from the important work being done on behalf of Americans, such as lowering the skyrocketing prices of prescription drugs.” Although the couple claims the story is a “fabricated distraction” and a “hit piece filled with faulty research,” Rockeymoore continues to prevent the legally mandated access to the non-profit’s finances — a move that could quickly clear the situation up. ijr.com/cummings-and-wife-deny-personal-benefit-refuse-to-turn-over-records/
Conservative blocks House passage of disaster relief bill Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas), a member of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, blocked a disaster relief bill in the House on Friday by objecting to an unanimous consent vote. The Texas Republican who previously worked for Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) argued the House should not have recessed before debating the legislation and holding a vote in arguing why he moved to stall the legislation. “I'm here today primarily because if I do not object, Congress will have passed into law a bill that spends $19 billion of taxpayer money without members of Congress being present in our nation's capital to vote on it,” he said on the floor. “Secondly, it's a bill that includes nothing to address the clear national emergency and humanitarian crisis we have at our southern border.” He also cited concerns with how the bill would ultimately be paid for. The $19.1 billion disaster aid package, which did not include the $4.5 billion in border funding requested by President Trump, passed the Senate in an 85-8 vote on Thursday, and the House GOP leadership had also supported moving forward with the bill. The House is due to come back on June 3 though it will hold a "pro forma" session on Tuesday, providing another opportunity to pass the bill. Roy slammed the Democrats' objection to provide border funding as a reason why he moved to block, for now, the disaster aid bill. "While Speaker Pelosi has consistently denied the crisis at our border, and thus has denied the humanity of the victims of cartels and other traffickers, she has been insisting that there is no money to satisfy the good faith compromise emergency funding requests from the White House," he said. Roy also forcefully argued the disaster aid bill should have included the border funding requested by Trump, saying it would have ensured the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Health and Human Services "do not run out of money while managing the over 100,000 illegal aliens being apprehended and the Unaccompanied Alien Minor Children being unable to be housed appropriately." The measure includes $900 million in aid to Puerto Rico — a provision the president previously objected to — in addition to assistance for areas of the United States affected by hurricanes, flooding, earthquakes and wildfires. The bill included $4.38 billion that was slated to be allocated toward Hurricane Harvey housing aid to Texas. The president previously agreed to sign the legislation, siding with Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman Richard Shelby (R-Ala.) and Sen. David Perdue's (R-Ga.) call for him to support the measure. thehill.com/homenews/house/445407-conservative-blocks-house-passage-of-disaster-relief-bill
